Bradshaw Park

Walking down to the bus stop to go and see skyfall, I encountered a large flock of mixed thrushes in Brdshaw park. Among them were at least 10 fieldfares, but there may well have been 30, as they were very mobile. I managed to get some smashing views of them as they perched in the hedge along the side. The thrushes, combined with the fog had a feel similar to that of Norfolk a few weeks ago.

And again at Soil Hill

its quite a site is soil hill, if you like mud and rubbish. Since it was a lovely morning with a lovely groundfrost I headed up the hill to see what birds were around. Following is a complete list of all the species I saw today:
-1 Blackbird, Male
-2 Phesants, cock and hen
-3 Meadow Pipits, flyovers
-4 Sheep
So as you can see, it was a pretty poor turnout from the birds this morning. I bumped into NK as I was leaving, hope you had more fum that me Nigel.

Soil Hell (Again)

Since it was a gloroius morning, with a slight groundfrost and hardly a cloud in the sky, I foolishly decided to return to soil hill. When will I ever learn. It took significantly longer than yesterday to find my first bird, which I only saw for a matter of seconds. Halfway down the far slope I managed to flush three red legged partridges, but they landed in the marsh at the bottom. You would think I was exagerating, but no... Those were the only birds I saw on the hill today!

Soil Hill

Maybe there's a reason I don't go up as much as I should. It was a nice day and I had nothing planned so I headed for soil hill. It was lovely at the top; nice sunshine, calm, but a distinct lack of birds. It took me 20 minuets before I found my first bird meadow pipit.
  Since there was so little to write about, I will post a complete list of the birds seen on the hill today:
-1 meadow pipit
-1 common gull (south)
-2 black-headed gulls (south)
-3 partridges flushed (Red legged?)
-1 carrion crow spotted in the distance
-1 Kestrel
It was nice to see the kestrel as it was hovering further down the hill and so was on a par with me at the top. Otherwise, all the other birds were flushed or flyovers.

Sparrowhawk

Whilst in lesson today, I spotted a lone sparrowhawk wither harassing or being harassed by a flock of what appeared to be starlings. They were some way off and the sparrowhawk was the only bird that was identifiable.

Walking home

Walking home from school yesterday I encountered a large rat feeding on some of the birdseed alongside a blackbird and a house sparrow. Theres not much else to say, except that it did not seem bothered about me being there.
