Fazenda Agua Limpa Day 37 08.10.2020
We decided
to take the morning off today and not bother setting an alarm. This meant we
finally arose from slumber by mid-morning when it was already very hot, and it
was only to get hotter with the temperature peaking at around 37 degrees but
could, at times, have reached 40. In the afternoon we headed out to a new area of
Cerrado but the weather still had not cooled down and the birdlife was slow. There
were a few birds of note, the best being a pair of Red Tanagers and a nice Small-billed
Tinamou.

Fazenda Agua Limpa Day 38 09.10.2020
Having
missed a certain male Helmeted Manakin several days in a row we decided it was
time to up our game, and as such we headed straight to the nets just after
first light, no looking at the reservoir and no admiring the magic tree outside
our lodgings. And it worked, as we finally caught the bird, and after only a
hour of having the nets open. With mission accomplished we then moved onto a
new area where we had very little success with birds.
In the afternoon, once it had cooled down, I headed back out to the area where the Cinereous-breasted Spinetails live. I only heard them on this occasion, but good to know they are still in the area. The birding was tough going due to the heat but there was still reasonable amounts of activity. Five Blue-winged Parrotlets were bathing in the pond when I arrived, which are always nice to see. I saw only my second Lineated Woodpecker for the farm, and heard one of my Brasilia Tapaculos. Sadly it was all overshadowed by a patch tick that got away. A large swift which had the impression of a white collar passed overhead whilst I was driving and by the time I had stopped it had already moved on. Both Biscutate and White-collared could occur here. It was, frustratingly, the one that got away.
