For our final morning in El Dorado Proaves reserve, we decided to relax after two consecutive 03:30 starts. That still involved an early breakfast at 06:00, but after we just explored the garden and the areas around the restaurant. There was not so much to see that was different, although the hummingbirds we obviously phenomenal. The highlight was a Lined Quail Dove that walked down the path right towards us as we were heading back to our room.
We left El Dorado at midday, taking the 4x4 back down to
Minca, where we would meet a taxi driver we had prearranged and they would take
us on to our airport hotel where we would spend our final night in the Santa
Marta area. On the way down, I managed to spot a day roosting Common Potoo in a
tree, which is only the second time I have seen the species at a day roost.
This was incredible although distant, and I was super excited to have picked it
out.
We reached our airport hotel early in the afternoon, but did
not see anything whilst there and the poor weather rendered any attempts to explore
completely useless. We decided to relax after an exhausting and eventful few
days in the mountains.
