Today was something of a non-starter, traveling from Santa Marta down to Cali and then driving six hours south to the Purace National Park where we would stay the night. The weather when we awoke was shit, and the driving as we headed south from Cali was just as dangerous and chaotic as I remember, making it a rather unpleasant day overall.
I managed to sneak in a couple of hours birding around our
airport hotel in the morning, before we flew south. Although the weather was
poor we managed to see a few interesting species, including Black-crested
Antshrike which is a local specialty that I had seen on my last visit to
northern Colombia. Otherwise it was mostly common species that we encountered,
and in the rain, we did not stick it out for long.
